Juvenile Diplodocus Skull
Juvenile Diplodocus Skull
Species: Juvenile Diplodocus – representing a young member of the iconic long-necked sauropod lineage. This reconstruction captures early developmental stages of one of the largest dinosaur groups to ever walk the Earth.
A 1:1 skull from a 6 meter specimen
Time Period: Late Jurassic (~150 million years ago)
Discovery Location: Based on juvenile specimens from the Morrison Formation, USA – a fossil-rich deposit that has yielded critical insight into sauropod ontogeny and growth patterns.
Skeleton: Crafted from high-durability resin with fine anatomical detail, this reconstruction reflects the proportions of a ~3.5-meter-long juvenile Diplodocus. Smaller and more gracile than subadult specimens, it features proportionally long limbs, a short neck, oversized orbital openings, and a delicate, tapering tail. The skeleton is finished in a realistic weathered fossil bone texture and reinforced internally with a metal armature for structural integrity and lasting display.
Ontogenetic Notes: At this stage, juvenile diplodocids are thought to have been highly mobile and exhibited different behaviors and ecological roles than adults. This replica highlights traits associated with rapid early growth, such as limb elongation, low body mass, and agility. Its proportions offer a scientifically grounded glimpse into the formative years of a future giant.
Display: Mounted on a custom black metal stand, posed in a dynamic walking stance. The posture evokes the energy and alertness of a fast-growing young sauropod.
Alternate Size – 6-Meter Version:
A larger 6-meter (19.7 ft) version of this juvenile Diplodocus is also available, inspired by the likes of "Andrew" (CMNH 8760). This rare, remarkably complete juvenile skeleton has provided key insights into diplodocid growth and morphology. The 6-meter replica captures that intermediate developmental phase between early juveniles and near-subadult individuals, offering an expanded display option for institutions or collectors seeking a more dramatic juvenile presentation.
Assembly: Ships in multiple sections to ensure safe delivery. Easy slot-together construction; minor adhesive may be used to secure internal connectors.
Please note: All skeletal reconstructions are made to order. Current production times average 8–12 weeks, though this may vary. Smaller items such as isolated bones or teeth typically ship sooner. For the latest availability, please contact us via chat.
