Meet Berthasaura leopoldinae, a remarkable toothless dinosaur from prehistoric Brazil, created for the first time ever by Dinosaur Skeletons
A world first, the edentulus DInosaur from Brazil. Berthasaura leopoldinae
We are excited to unveil the first complete skeletal reconstruction of Berthasaura leopoldinae in the world. We created this breathtaking full skeletal mount in 2022. This remarkable theropod from the Early Cretaceous period was discovered in the Goio-Erê Formation of Paraná, Brazil. The holotype, MN 7821-V, is a nearly complete disarticulated skeleton, making it one of the most complete dinosaurs known from Cretaceous Brazil. When this dinosaur was first described, we immediately set to work reconstructing this quirky theropod. Our reconstruction captures the key anatomical features that make Berthasaura leopoldinae so remarkable. Such as a toothless, beak-like mouth, suggesting herbivorous or omnivorous dietary preferences. A small size, with an estimated body length of approximately 1 meter. Tiny arms and long gracile legs. It has featured across media and national press, such as BBC Television and news and The Times newspaper.
